6 Must-Ask Questions For Hiring a Wedding Videographer

We know that searching for the right videographer for your wedding can be a challenge. It’s important to preserve the memories of your wedding day, and you need to hire someone you can trust. To help you make the best decision possible, we have come up with a list of 6 must-ask questions for when you're interviewing videographers.

1. How much time does your package cover?
Many videographers limit their services by a number of hours. This restriction might not be in line with your wedding timeline. Will they be able to film anything before the wedding starts? Will they film the send-off at the end of the night?

Make sure the video package you are discussing will cover everything that is important to you.

2. How many people from your company will be filming?
Nobody can be in two places at once and on your wedding day there will be many things happening at the same time. One camera operator surely will not be able to record everything. Make sure there is more than one videographer filming on your wedding day.

3. How do you record audio?
Clear audio is essential for a great video. If you have ever recorded something on your phone or personal camera, you already know that built-in microphones don’t cut it. A professional videographer will have a solution. Listen for something along the lines of “off-camera microphones” or “audio recorder.”

4. What does your process look like?
The videographer should be able to give you a good idea of what it's like to work with them. Having a process is what separates professionals from amateurs, and you don't want to hire an amateur.

A professional videographer will have the answers to these questions when describing their process: How much communication will there be leading up to the wedding? What is the plan on the wedding day? How long will it be after the wedding before you receive your video?

5. What is delivered in the package?
It's important to know exactly what you'll receive once the wedding is over. Is your video going to be hosted online? Are you receiving a DVD? What will be on the DVD? What does the DVD look like?

Get all the details to make sure you know exactly what to expect.

6. Can you tell me about the most recent wedding you filmed?
In the creative business there is an expression that goes, “You’re only as good as your last project.” A professional videographer should have no problem sharing the story of their most recent project. Ask how that bride found them, if there were any hiccups along the way, and about the bride's overall satisfaction.

Asking these questions will help you get a much better idea of what you can expect from a videographer. This is your big day, so make sure you have the right company filming it!
